Samaritan's Purse has been supporting needy children and their families since 1998. Families in Romania, Ukraine and Portugal have been assisted by local churches that work in conjunction with Samaritans Purse, and who receive sponsorship from the UK to support their work with these families.
Through this partnership more than 5,400 children and their families have and continue to be supported!
Samaritan's Purse has now taken the Child & Family Support programme to Africa. Working in conjunction with our partners in Uganda we have identified vulnerable children and families who will benefit greatly from the programme. Access to these children is enhanced by the presence of the Christian Church in Uganda, which allows ample opportunity for partnerships with a well established network of churches.
We have recently begun working with 5 local churches in Kampala, mobilising around 50 church volunteers to provide hands-on care and support to 75 families.To find out more about our programme in Uganda, please download our Uganda newsletter.
Our exciting new programme in Kenya
We now want to build on the sucess of the work carried out in Uganda and expand our programme to include a new project in Kenya.
With around 2.4 million orphans living in Kenya, we are starting a pilot working alongside well established partners who will find and care for children and families living in the slums of Kibera - the largest slum in Africa. We will seek to empower these families and provide spiritual, emotional & educational support through the local churches.
We will care for:
- Vulnerable children
- Street children
- Children who are begging
- Single parent homes
- Orphaned children
